From inception up until the setting up process, how did you start your business? Seven years ago I began towing for someone else and went back to doing mechanical repairs. My interest in cars saw me building race cars and I needed a form of transport for my vehicles. It was then that I decided to get my own tow truck. This in return would provide me with the flexibility to work various hours. This helped me balance business, family and pleasure.Did your Greek Australian background help you or impede you during your early days?It certainly didn’t hinder my expansion! In fact, it was a great help, as a lot of the car enthusiasts were of a Greek background. The word then spread to friends and family which helped them with the language barrier. I have found that Greeks generally build a level of trust when communication is achieved.What would you say stands out as the comparative advantage of your business over the competition?Efficiency, reliability, quality of service provided and most importantly, customer satisfaction. Every vehicle which I tow, I treat as if it was my own, and take great care and pride when loading and unloading. Even when I’m fully booked, I make the effort to meet customer needs. Various trustworthy colleagues are also called upon when available.How is business currently?Business is booming for I have built a reputation over the years and have a solid network of clients. This ranges from a variety of mechanics, different panel beaters, workshops, businesses and organisations which are dealt with on a daily basis. This also includes the general public through referrals. Word of mouth is also a great form of free advertising.What is your vision for the future of your business?My vision is to maintain my level of quality, expertise and service that I am renowned for. Everyone from big business, prestige cars, show cars and not forgetting the all important average “Joe Blow”. Meanwhile I want to continue keeping my family happy. Family always comes first.Do you have any tips for young entrepreneurs? Like any job or business you need to enjoy what you are doing. You must be motivated and have a passion for what you do. If you do not have these qualities when running your business or in your job, this will show and will negatively impact on the service that you provide. In order to succeed, you need to work hard and efficiently. Build up that reputable service. I recommend starting with a cheaper truck, see how your clientele grows, as there is a lot of competition out there. Word of mouth is very important and will help you expand your business and open new opportunities. Finally, don’t give up!
