Kilcar too good for Termon in feisty quarter-final clash

first_imgKilcar proved far too good for Francie Friel’s Termon side in a game that threatened to boil over on several occasions. Termon tried to impose themselves physically on their slicker, quicker opponents, but it threatened to escalate with tensions running high. The game was just twenty seconds old when Ryan McHugh was hit hard in a third man tackle by Sean ‘The Decent’ O’Donnell and that set the tone for the next fifteen minutes. O’Donnell was lucky not to be black-carded – but he replaced early into the first-half as his intimate tussle with McBrearty causing a number of spats. There were lot of incidents happening off the ball, with Eoin McHugh, Ryan McHugh and Stephen McBrearty the target of some very close marking that bordered on the illegal.Kilcar’s management team were getting animated at the tactics employed by Termon, and it was very difficult game to referee. However, Micheal Hegarty rolled back the years with a superb first-half display, he kicked three long range beauties. While Eoin McHugh, Ryan McHugh, Ciaran McGinley and Barry Shovlin scored some superb points to give Kilcar a commanding first-half lead. They headed for the changing rooms at half-time leading by nine points – on a score-line of 0-11 to 0-02, with the game effectively already over as a contest. It was much of the same in the second-half, with Kilcar dominating possession and they worked some beautiful points, with McGinley, Patrick McBrearty and Eoin McHugh all adding points. It could have been worse for Termon, but Michael Boyle made two stunning second-half saves, Kilcar have so much pace and quality it was difficult to combat.Termon battled on gamely, but in truth were totally outclassed by a team with genuine ambitions of winning the Donegal SFC. On this evidence, Kilcar look like they could go all the way, but will know they’ll face tougher tests if they’re to get their hands on the Dr Maguire Cup which has proved elusive to them in the last 23 years.Final score: Kilcar 0-19 Termon 0-04Kilcar too good for Termon in feisty quarter-final clash was last modified: September 24th, 2016 by Mark ForkerShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)last_img
