King Mohammed VI Invites Vladimir Putin to visit Morocco

Rabat – King Mohammed VI received senior-level Russian official Nikolai Patrushev in Casablanca on Friday, according to an official statement from the Moroccan government disseminated by the Maghreb Arab Presse.“King Mohammed VI received today in the royal palace in Casablanca, the secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Nikolai Patruchev, who is on a working visit to the kingdom,” the release said.King Mohammed VI receives senior-level Russian official Nikolai PatrushevThe Moroccan monarch visited Moscow and met with President Vladimir Putin earlier this year – signing several cooperation agreements related to counter-terrorism, transportation and more in the process. Mohammed VI made a formal invitation to Putin to visit Morocco during the meeting with Patruchev this week, with Interior Minister, Mohamed Hassad, the king’s advisor Fouad Ali El Himma and Russian Ambassador to Morocco Valery Voroblev present.The king reiterated his “determination” to strengthen security ties between Morocco and Russia in the coming months, in all agreed upon fields, according to the statement.Russia welcomed the position of King Mohammed VI in coordinating Rabat-Moscow’s stances, Russian President’s Special Representative for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mikhail Bogdanov, said Thursday in Rabat.The two countries share close positions on a number of issues related to the Middle East and Africa, Bogdanov told the press following his talks with Foreign Minister Salaheddine Mezouar, according to an earlier MWN article.Yesterday’s talks included issues in Libya, Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Palestine, the Russian diplomat said.
